2. React
a. First, do Worksheet 1.
This worksheet teaches you some vocabulary relating to (1) rain, and (2) people’s reactions to it.
b. Speak with a partner or group:
- (i) The text on Worksheet 1 splits people into three groups. Which group are you in most often?
- (ii) Which types of people were most common in the video you watched in the first part of this lesson?
- (iii) Which activities might you cancel, or change to a later day, because of wet weather?
- (iv) Are there any (indoor or outdoor) activites which you enjoy doing in wet weather?
- (v) Does rainy weather help you to focus, or stop you focusing?
- (vi) Do you find the sound of rain soothing (= calming) or annoying?
- (vii) To put something aside for a rainy day is an idiom meaning “keep something safe for when you might need it in the future”. What things should everyone put aside for a rainy day?

c. Quiz: True or false?
- (1) People get more work done on rainy days, compared to sunny days.
- (2) Rainy weather helps the economy to grow.
- (3) You’re much less likely to experience a crime when the weather is wet.
- (4) Everyone eats more when it rains a lot.
- (5) Children’s behaviour is worse just before a rainstorm starts.
- (6) People generally drive more slowly in the rain, but experienced drivers slow down more than less experienced ones.
- (7) Unemployed people spend the same amount of time looking for a job on rainy days and dry days: the weather makes no difference.
d. Do Worksheet 2.
This sheet contains a set of mini-texts which show you if your answers in part c. were (scientifically) correct or not. The texts are based on real research from universities and other organisations worldwide.
e. Brainstorm with a partner or group.
- What other effects is rain likely to have on people’s behaviour? Think of 5-7 ideas.
- What kind of experiment could a researcher do to test these theories?

Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into these lessons. I have used a few of your lessons with great success in one-to-one lessons. I love the way you move from one spect to another while linking all with one theme. Kudos!
